Week beginning ?, 2022
Wellbeing/Physical Activity
Learning Intention:
We are learning to identify calming strategies so we can calm ourselves down
Task:
Log in to ClickView and watch Calming my Body and Brain.
Try the strategies the video suggests, Japanese hand holding, shake to relax and squeeze and release.
Which one was your favourite strategy? Why?
How did it make your body feel?
When could you use these strategies?
During the week, if you feel like you are in the red or yellow zone try using one of these strategies to calm your body down.

(15 minutes)
Reading & Viewing
Learning Intention:
We are learning to identify our favourite part of stories so we understand what we read
Task:
Log in to Story Box here and listen to the story We All Sleep.
Think of your favourite part of the story and why. Draw a picture of this in your workbook.
Show someone at your house your drawing and tell them why this is your favourite part.
(10 minutes)
Writing
Learning Intention:
We are learning to talk about something that has happened so we can write a recount
Task:
In the story We All Sleep, the characters fall asleep under the stars.
Set up a campsite. This could be in your living room, bedroom or backyard. You may want the campsite to be big enough for you or it could be for your teddies.
Look at the pictures below for some ideas.

Think about some of the things you need on the campsite. For example, shelter like a teepee, fort or tent, snacks and warmth. You might want to read some of your favourite stories while you’re camping or sing some songs.
After you or your teddies have been camping, talk to someone in your family about what you did while you were camping.
(20 minutes+)
Maths
Daily Fluency Game:
Play Go Fish using a pack of cards. You need to try and collect as many pairs as possible.
Go Fish continues until either someone has no cards left in their hand or the draw pile runs out.
The winner is the player who then has the most pairs.
(10 minutes each day)
Learning Intention:
We are learning about numbers 0-20 so we can count
Task:
Choose a number between 10-20 and make collections of this amount.
Try to arrange items differently. For example, make 10 as a group of 5 and 5 or 6 and 4 (see below).

How many different ways can you find to make each number?
(15 minutes)
Science
Learning Intention:
We are learning about living things so we know what they need
Task:
People are living things and we need to eat food to keep our bodies healthy and to give us energy.
Write a list and draw pictures of the healthy foods you like to eat.
(15 minutes)
Wellbeing/Physical Activity
Learning Intention:
We are learning to identify calming strategies so we can calm ourselves down
Task:
Practise the following 2 breathing strategies (5 minutes each day).

Six Sides of Breathing: Imagine you are drawing a hexagon with your finger in the air using the hexagon image below to help you.
As you draw over the first side of the hexagon, take a deep breath in, feeling your shoulders rise as the air fills you.
Hold your breath for a moment as you trace over the next side. Slowly breathe out as you trace the third side of the hexagon.
Continue tracing around the bottom three sides of the hexagon as you complete another deep breath.
Continue The Six Sides of Breathing cycle until you feel calm and relaxed.
Lazy 8 Breathing: Imagine you are tracing the Lazy 8 with your finger starting at the star and taking a deep breath in.
As you cross over to the other side of the Lazy 8, slowly let your breath out. Continue breathing around the Lazy 8 until you have a calm body and mind.
At the end of the week, discuss with a family member which breathing strategy you prefer.
Reading & Viewing
Learning Intention:
We are learning to use the clues in the book so we can understand characters
Task:
Log in to StoryBox Library here and listen to the story We All Sleep.

After reading, choose a character from the story.
Draw this character sleeping under the stars in your book.
Add a dream bubble to your picture to show what you think the character might be dreaming about.
(15 minutes)
Writing
Learning Intention:
We are learning to talk about something that has happened so we can write a recount
Task:
Think about the campsite that you made yesterday.
How did you make it?
Who was there?
What did you do?
Draw a picture about your campsite. Label your picture using your letter-sound knowledge.

(20 minutes)
We are learning the sequence of the numbers 1-20 so we can count
Task:
Make number cards 0-20.
Shuffle your pile of cards and have them face down.
Flip over a card and build a collection of that number.
You could use jelly beans, or lego to make your collections. See if you can make collections for all of your number cards.

(15 minutes+)
Science
Learning Intention:
We are learning about what living things need to survive
Tasks:
Living things all need to breathe. Some living things breathe air.
Stand in a quiet place in your house.
Close your eyes and listen to your breathing.
Think about if your breath is fast or slow or if it is hard or easy to breath.
Draw a table like the one below, in the ‘before’ column draw a picture of yourself and label your picture with things you noticed that your breath was doing.
Now, choose an exercise to complete inside your house or outside.
You may want to go for a run, jump on your trampoline or do some skipping.
You might have another exercise you like!
While you are exercising and when you are finished think about what your breath was doing. Think if it was fast or slow or if it is hard or easy to breathe.
Draw a picture of yourself and label your picture with things you noticed that your breath or body was doing in the ‘after’ section.

(20 minutes)
Wellbeing/Physical Activity
Learning Intention:
We are learning to identify calming strategies so we can calm ourselves down
Talk to a family member about how it feels when you read or have been told something that you know is incorrect.
Do you feel mad, frustrated or annoyed?
How does your body feel?
Are you in the yellow or red zone?
Now, practise a strategy you have learnt to use when you feel this way (e.g. count to 5, take deep breaths, think of something positive to say, go for a walk etc.)
(10 minutes)
Reading & Viewing
Learning Intention:
We are learning to monitor our reading by rereading a sentence
Task:
Before reading: What do you think is happening in this picture? Can you describe what this picture is about?
During reading: When you get to a tricky word, make the sound of the first letter and think what the unknown word could be. Have a go at reading the tricky word and think, ‘does it look right?’ and ‘does it make sense?’
Check the tricky word by clicking the ‘read to me’ function. Go back to the start of the sentence and reread for fluency.
After reading: Think about how rereading helped understand what you were reading.
Look at the example below and try to use this strategy when completing your independent reading with your bug club books.
(10+ minutes)
Writing
Learning Intention:
We are learning to talk about something that has happened so we can write a recount
Task:
A recount retells a sequence of events. It always includes who, what, where and when.
Think about your experience of making your campsite. Write a recount about the experience and draw a picture to match your sentence. Don’t forget to add full stops at the end of your sentence.
(20+ minutes)

Learning Intention:
We are learning the sequence of the numbers 1-20 so we can count
Task:
Look at the following sets of numbers below, there are some numbers missing.
Write the sequence of numbers and include the missing numbers.

Once you have completed the missing numbers above, draw a number line from 0 to 20.
Choose a number from the number line.
Write the numbers that come before and after this number. You can use your number line to support you.
(15 minutes+)
Inquiry/Science
Learning Intention:
We are learning to show our thinking about how living things have basic needs including food, water and shelter
Task:
Plants and animals are living things. What do animals need to survive? Record and draw answers on the table under the ‘animal’ heading and then think about what ‘plants’ need to survive and complete the ‘plants’ side of the table.

(15 minutes)
Wellbeing/Physical Activity
Position your body in these poses and hold for 20 seconds. Don’t forget to take long slow breaths in and out.

(10 minutes)
Reading & Viewing
Learning Intention:
We are learning to monitor our reading so we can make sure what we read looks right
Task:
Good readers monitor their reading. While reading your allocated books on Bug Club and use the following strategies to help you attempt unknown words and understand the text:

(10+ minutes)
Writing
Learning Intention:
We are learning to write anti-clockwise letters so people can read our writing.
Task:
In your book, practise drawing six whirlpools like the example below.

When you have finished six whirlpools, practise writing at least ten lowercase o’s and d’s in your workbook.

Task:
Draw 3 monsters.
Ask a family member to write a number between 1-20 on each tummy in random order, for example 8, 5 and 3.

Now cut these out and paste them into your book in order from smallest to largest.
Repeat 2 more times and if you would like to challenge yourself get your family member to choose numbers between 1-100.
(15+ minutes)
Science
People are living things. Think about what you need to stay alive and why you need those things.
What do you think would happen if you didn’t have those things? Look at the template below.

Draw a picture of yourself in the square in the centre then draw and write things in the circles that you need to stay alive. Remember, some things we want but don’t need.
Miss Peacock wants a trampoline but doesn’t need it to survive.
(20 minutes)
Wellbeing/Physical Activity
Using any equipment you have at home such as toys, pillows, socks or balls and create a brand new sports trick that you can do.
After you have mastered your trick, teach it to someone and see if they can do your new trick. For example, Your new sporting trick might look like someone juggling two basketballs.
Maybe you can juggle two basketballs and kick a soccer ball at the same time! Have fun and be as creative as you can.
(20 minutes)
Reading & Viewing
Learning Intention:
We are learning to identify high-frequency words in books so we can read them
Task:

(10+ minutes)
Writing
Learning Intention:
We are learning to write our high-frequency words so we can use them in our writing
Task:
Make a board game with a family member.
Look at the high-frequency words in your green book. Copy words you can read but are still learning to spell onto the game board.
With a family member, play the high-frequency word game.
To play, roll a dice and move that number of spaces. Read the word you land on out loud.
The first player to reach the finish line wins.
