Our library provides an opportunity for students to experience the joy of reading and the excitement of discovering knowledge and works of the imagination.
The Laburnum library is always a hub of activity, it is a wonderful place where students are exposed to a wide range of high quality, current children’s literature. We are one of the few remaining government primary schools to employ a teacher librarian, because Reading is so important. Our students have a passionate expert on hand to support them, and their parents and teachers, with book selection.
Students thrive on sharing their knowledge of books and contributing their ideas through book talks and recommendations. They learn through independent and collaborative learning opportunities that encourage critical and creative thinking.
Exposure to quality literature is prominent through events such as Book Fair and Book Week, where students study the Children’s Book Council of Australia shortlisted books.
Our community library is open every morning before school and at lunchtimes. Lunchtime events are held throughout the year, including Prep ‘story time’.
Our library is a rich and varied resource centre, a friendly community facility and a great place to share a book with a friend.
