Work to be uploaded this week:
Published Colour Poem
Wellbeing
Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships
This task needs to be completed in your blue scrapbook with the date written at the top of the page.
Learning Intention:
We are identifying how our interests can be similar or different to others
Task:
- ‘Similarities and Differences’
Sometimes we have the same interests as some people, but not others. For example:
Mrs Kelly likes to read, just like Miss Marshall, and she also likes to cook with people like Miss Loucas.
Miss Souvatzis and Miss Walker both like football, but support different football teams.
Click here to login to ClickView and listen to the story ‘Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsley’.
Copy and complete the table below into your lined book.
Find examples of how Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsley are different.
Record how you are like one of the characters.

(20 minutes)
Reading
These tasks need to be completed in your pink lined book with the date written at the top of the page.
Learning Intention:
We are learning to build our reading stamina by reading independently for 20 minutes every day
Task:
- It is really important that when we read we are able to concentrate on our book for a long time.
Find a quiet, comfortable place in your house to read a Just Right Book that has been assigned to you on
Bug Club or Epic! (including books you may have already read).
This should look just like independent reading at school and you should do it every day.
Record your reading stamina minutes in the graph below.
Compare your stamina to last week. Has it improved?

(20 minutes per day)
Learning Intention:
We are learning to identify topics that we enjoy reading
Task:
- There are lots of reasons we read different types of books.
Sometimes we want to relax with a good story, laugh with a joke or funny tale and other times we need to read to learn something new!
Think about the types of books (genres) and authors that you enjoy reading.
Fill in the table below with your favourite fiction and non-fiction books, as well as your favourite authors.
List at least three in each box.
An example has been done for you.

(30 minutes)
Learning Intention:
We are learning to retell a story with detail
Task:
- Read ‘Wombat Stew’ by Marcia Vaughan.
After reading, think about what happens at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of the story.
Share your retell verbally with someone in your family, or even your teddy.
Draw what happens in each part of the story in the table below and write some sentences to match your pictures.

(10 minutes per day)
Learning Intentions:
We are learning to take away the initial sound of a word
We are learning to use our best handwriting
Task:
- This week for Phonological Awareness we are going to practise taking away sounds from words.
In the first box, there is a word and in the second box it tells you which sound to take away.
In the third box, write down the word that is left.
An example has been completed for you below.
Practise your best handwriting when recording the new word.

(30 minutes)
Learning Intention:
We are learning to keep a log of our daily reading
Task:

- Everyday when you read,
you are expected to record what you have read,
the pages you have read and the date you read in your yellow reading log.
If you don’t have one, you can record this at the back of your pink lined book.
(5 minutes)
Writing
These tasks need to be completed in your pink lined book with the date written at the top of the page.
Learning Intention:
We are learning to identify the different types of writing that we know (information reports, poetry, procedure, word splash, letters, recounts, stories and lists)
Task:
- Free choice writing.
You can choose to write an information report, a three-line poem, an acrostic poem, a procedure, a letter, a recount, a story or a list.
You can do this task more than once!
Don’t forget to create some illustrations to add meaning to your writing.
(30 minutes)
Learning Intention:
We are learning to plan a colour poem using our five senses (looks, sounds, smells, tastes, feels)
Task: This task will be introduced during Webex Essential on Tuesday
- Colour Poem Brainstorm
Colour poems are about a single colour using descriptions, nouns and key words to express feelings about that colour.
Have you ever thought what the colour purple may look like, sound like, smell like, taste like or feel like?
Does it taste like grape bubble gum or juicy plums in the summertime that dribble down your chin?
This week, we would like you to pick a colour to brainstorm using your five senses.
Fill out the table below.
Remember to include interesting adjectives to describe your colour.
An example has been completed for you.
Write as many sentences for each sense as you can think of!
You can also choose other colours to write about.

(40 minutes)
Learning Intention:
We are learning to turn our brainstorm into a published colour poem
Task:
- Published Colour Poem
Choose the colour that has your favourite sentences.
Make sure that you have one sentence for each of the five senses.
You will need to write a title, have capital letters at the start of the sentences, full stops and detailed illustrations to match your poem.
Look at the example below for inspiration.
(40 minutes)

Success Criteria:
- I used the five senses to describe my colour
- I included capital letters and full stops
- I used my neatest writing for my heading and my poem
- I drew beautiful and colourful illustrations
Please upload a picture of your published poem to the Sentral Parent Portal, with your name on it, by Thursday.
Spelling/Handwriting
These tasks need to be completed in your pink lined book with the date written at the top of the page.
Learning Intentions:
We are learning to find words with ‘ay’ in them
We are learning to identify word families
Task: This task will be reviewed during Webex Essential on Thursday
- Spelling Detectives
Find and write as many words as you can with ‘ay’ in them.
Underline the ‘ay’ in each of the words.
You can use an alphabet strip or a book to help you find and think of words.
Some examples to get you started:
say, play, pay, stay
Use the poem below to help you start finding ‘ay’ words.

As you were investigating, what did you discover?
Did you find any words that sound the same but look different?
Write some of these words down.
Maths
These tasks need to be completed in your blue scrapbook with the date written at the top of the page.
Learning Intention:
We are learning to play ‘Double Trouble’
Task:
- Fluency Task (to be completed daily)
Login to ‘ClickView’ and watch the video of Miss Souvatzis playing ‘Double Trouble’.
To play this game you need a partner, if you don’t have a partner you can use a toy.
You also need 10 counters with different colours for each partner and 1 die.
You can print off the game board here, or write your own in your blue scrapbook (you can do this to create more challenging numbers).
Decide who goes first by playing Rock, Paper, Scissors.
The first player rolls the die and doubles that number (adds the same number together).
For example if I roll a 2, I add another 2 and I get 4 because 2 + 2 = 4.
I then place my counter on the 4.
If there is already a counter on that number, I miss a turn.
The first player to get five of their counters in a row wins!
(10 minutes per day)
Learning Intention:
We are learning to use doubling as an addition strategy
Tasks:
- Doubles facts are important to learn.
They will help you, just like friends of ten!
Below is a picture of a tens frame showing double 4.
What is the answer?

Choose 5 numbers that you are going to double.
Draw them on a tens frame using different colours to show the doubling strategy.
Write a number sentence to match.
If you choose a number bigger than 5, you may need to draw more tens frames!
(30 minutes)
- Practise your number fluency by playing ‘Hit the Button’.
Click on the ‘doubles’ button and then ‘doubles to 10’.
You can explore the other levels to challenge yourself!

(30 minutes)
Learning Intention
We are learning to write yes or no questions to create surveys
Task: This task will be taught during Webex Essential on Wednesday
- Yes or No Questions
This term we will be learning how to collect data to create our own surveys and graphs.
Think of some good questions that will give you more information about the people in your class.
These should have a yes or no answer.
For example, can you ride a two-wheeler bike?
Write five questions that have a yes or no answer in your blue scrapbook.
You might like to ask your family members and record their responses!
Choose your favourite yes or no question and bring it to Wednesday's Webex Essential.
(30 minutes)
P.E. / Movement Breaks

To view the Leader Board after the second week click here.
Don’t forget to …
- Keep track of how much time you spend being active from Monday to Friday each week,
1 minute of any form of exercise = 1km.
For example, if you complete a total of 30 minutes exercise every day from Monday to Friday you will contribute 150 km! (30 x 5=150).
- Keep track of the type of activity you participate in from Monday to Friday each week
e.g. walking, running, skipping, bike riding
Click here to enter your results by 3pm Friday.
Remember to demonstrate the school value of integrity when entering your results.
Bonus offer – If you would like to send a video of yourself performing the following skill via the Sentral Parent Portal, we will TRIPLE your result!
Skill Challenge: Bounce a ball. While the ball is up in the air, clap your hands four times and then catch the ball before it hits the ground.
Good luck and remember every kilometre counts!
