NEW! 2026 Prep Enrolment

UPDATED ON 15 APRIL 2025

Welcome to Laburnum Primary School

All government schools follow the same guidelines and timeline for 2026 Prep enrolments. The timeline seeks to make the enrolment process simpler, clearer and fairer for families.

Parents/carers can read more about the general Prep enrolment information process on the Department of Education website page here. This link has been updated and now includes information in multiple languages (scroll down the page). From 22 April 2025, it will also contain the 2026 Foundation (Prep) Enrolment Information Pack for Parents and Carers.

School enrolment zones have been updated for 2026. Parents can now check for their child's 2026 neighbourhood school here.

To start primary school in 2026, your child will need to turn 5 years old by 30 April 2026. Schooling is compulsory for children who have turned 6 years old.

If your child is starting Foundation (Prep) in 2026, you will be able to apply to enrol your child in a Victorian government primary school from the start of Term 2, 2025 (Tuesday 22 April 2025). Enrolments should be submitted by Friday 25 July 2025, at the latest.

In April 2025, our school received updated enrolment restrictions from the Department of Education, which limit the number of 2026 Prep enrolments we can accommodate. Please apply early to avoid disappointment.

What you need for enrolment:

We suggest that families begin compiling the following documents to support your enrolment application. Delays can be avoided in April by submitting all documentation at the time of submitting an enrolment application form.

Essential documents for enrolment:

  • Copy of Birth Certificate or Passport
  • Copy of Immunisation Certificate (Immunisation certificates can be obtained by ringing: 1800 653 809 or through a Medicare office)
  • Proof of residence e.g. gas and electricity bills (water bills or council rate notices are not proof of residence) or current driver's licence
  • Copy of Visa (if applicable)

To commence online enrolment:
Visit https://students.educationapps.vic.gov.au/s/ to create an account and complete the online application form. Please ensure that all documents required are attached to the application. These can be added over multiple sessions.

The Department's Digital Enrolment Parent/Carer Guide for using the online portal is available here (unfortunately, only in English at this point).

Please note:

From 15 to 22 April 2025 Student Insight will be upgraded to Version 2.0. The site will use the same URL address
Information uploaded to VicStudents before 15 April will transfer internally to the new online portal. Parents who already registered before 15 April may be prompted to update their password after 15 April.

Please expect some outages while the new site becomes operational, and check back later if you cannot access VicStudents.

If your child's enrolment is accepted, we also require the following documents before Prep Transition sessions in Term 4, 2026:

School Tours for parents/carers:

Laburnum Primary School will offer school tours from February 2025. Our adults-only tours are only held on Mondays at 12:15 pm, as our current Preps are not in their classrooms at that time. We find that, by limiting the tours to parents/carers only, there are adequate opportunities for all participants to have their questions asked and answered. Enrolled children visit the school during the Term 4 Prep Transition program.

To register for a parent tour, please complete the registration form below. After receiving this, we will then confirm your tour by email.
