Reading and Viewing...for dads! 3 September 2021
Celebrating all our dads! With Father's Day coming up on Sunday, we wish all our dads (and special others) a wonderful day and remind you all of how important you are in your children's lives.
Thank you to our fantastic Parents Group and some very happy LPS students for putting together this video, on behalf of all our students, to reach out to all LPS dads in a different way this year. We hope you enjoy this!
As well, we offer some more readings to remind our dads of the very important role you play. Michael Grose shares his Parenting Ideas in Use Your Words Dad, now also found on our Home Page with last week's What Kids Learn from Fathers.
Have a great Father's Day everyone!
Congratulations to the sixteen LPS students who have joined the Victorian High-Ability Program (VHAP) in Mathematics this week. These Year 5 and 6 students are selected by DET and we thank their parents for facilitating their online VHAP sessions while we are in Remote Learning. The program targets high-ability students in Years 5 to 8 at government schools and provides 10-week online extension and enrichment programs.
As you are aware, due to the ongoing level of community transmission of COVID-19, the Victorian Government has announced the current restrictions in place across Victoria will be extended. This means remote and flexible learning will continue in all Victorian schools until the end of Term 3. Following this announcement, we have received a new DET Operations Guide. There are no changes to the current operational settings in schools or the categories of students who can attend on-site.
Unfortunately, we have cancelled the Year 4 camp as a result of restrictions. The State Schools Spectacular, affecting some Year 3 students, was also cancelled last week. Our resilient Year 4 students can look forward to their Year 5 Camp at Safety Beach in February. An information session will be held for parents well before then, with this cohort being the first from LPS to enjoy the Safety Beach experience.
As a result of these cancellations, we thank parents for your patience as our office staff work through more Family Credits. We'll let families know when these are completed.
In preliminary talks about returning to school, we are already aware of the probability of the continued use of masks by children and adults. Parents might like to begin sourcing these, and teaching children how to use them properly, as a logical safety measure. LFH eNews #37 provides some information links to support this learning.
Take care everyone. And enjoy your family on Father's Day, whichever way you can connect.
