Below is a list of what we plan to do in our Webex Essential sessions:
Please have a workbook or paper and a pencil with you for these sessions.
Webex Thursday: Science - Designing a toy (Introducing)
Webex Friday: Maths - Feedback of Maths task and part-part-whole (Introducing)
Webex Monday: Writing - Capital letters (Reviewing). Please bring your pet rock to our meeting
Wellbeing
Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships ‘Stress Management’
Learning Intention:
We are learning to identify calming strategies so we can calm ourselves down
Task:
We have been learning about different strategies that we use to calm ourselves down when we are in the blue, yellow or red zones.
Think about the strategies that work for you or strategies you would like to try next time you need to calm down.
Make a calming wheel, like the one below with the strategies that work for you.

Keep this in a safe place as you might like to use it next time you need to calm down.
(20 minutes)
Reading
Learning Intention:
We are learning to read for enjoyment and to make independent choices about what books we read
Tasks:
What do you want to read more about? It could be dinosaurs, space, animals, unicorns, vehicles.
Have a chat with a family member about your favourite topics and then use Epic! to search for books you want to read.
You can add these books to your favourites list so you can come back to them later.

(15+ minutes)
Practise independent reading with the books that you enjoy.
(10 minutes per day)
Learning Intention:
We are learning make connections so we can understand characters
Task:
Login to Storybox Library and listen to the story Not Cute.
Does this story remind you of any other books?
If it reminds you of another book it is called a text-to-text connection.
Draw the front cover of Not Cute and another similar story.
How are the books similar? Write a sentence. For example, Not Cute may remind you of another story you have read about animals.

You may like to find other stories on Storybox Library written by the author of ‘Not Cute’ Philip Bunting.
(15 minutes)
Learning Intention:
We are learning to use the clues in the book so we can understand the characters
Task:
Choose another character from the story Not Cute and design a cover with a drawing of the character and a new title.
For example you could draw Croc and the title could be ‘Not Snappy’.
(10 minutes)
Writing.
Learning Intention:
We are learning to develop our fine motor skills so we can improve our finger strength
Task:
Make a pet rock of an animal you like or a pet rock family by using rocks from your garden and other materials in your house.
Have a look at the picture below for some ideas.

(20 minutes)
Learning Intention:
We are learning to use capital letters and full stops so our writing can be read
Webex Monday: Writing - Capital letters (Reviewing). Please bring your pet rock to our meeting
Task:
We would like to get to know your pet rock.
Think about the following sentence starters and write a profile about your pet rock.
Name:
I have..
I eat...
I live…
We have included an example below.

Learning Intention:
We are learning to write clockwise letters so people can read our writing
Task:
Practise writing the capital letter Z and lowercase letter z ten times in your book.
Make sure you start at the dot at the top of the letter and follow the arrows.
Once you have finished, write the capital H and lowercase letter h ten times.
Have you noticed that the way we write some letters can be different to the way they look in books or other texts? Look at lower case z or h as an example!
If you would like an extra challenge you could write some words that have a z or h in them.
(15 minutes)
Maths
Learning Intention:
We are learning to show numbers in different ways so we understand numbers
Webex Friday: Maths - Feedback of Maths task and part-part-whole (Introducing)
Tasks:
Collect a group of objects, up to 10. For example, use your teddies. How many do you have?
Now play hide and seek with your teddies or objects.
Hide some of the teddies under a box, tissue, hat etc.
How many do you see?
How many are hidden?
These two numbers are the two parts that together make the whole.
For example ‘I have 9 teddies. I can see 4 here, so there must be 5 hiding.’
Repeat this game of hide and seek with the objects that you collected.
You might like to challenge a family member by asking them how many things are hiding.
(15 minutes)
After you have played with the objects by hiding them, complete the ‘Part, Part, Whole Robot’.
You can use the same number of objects you were hiding or choose another number up to 10.
Write the whole number at the top and then the two parts that make the whole number.
After this, cut out a small piece of paper and glue it across the top of one of the parts, like a flap, so the number is hidden.

(15 minutes)
Learning Intention:
We are learning to ask yes/no questions so we can collect information
Task:
Log into ClickView and watch Tally Up.
Think of a question to ask your family and friends.
The question needs to have only a yes or no answer.
Some examples are:
Do you like ice-cream?
Do you like dogs?
Do you have a pet?
Write down your question at the top of your page and draw a T chart with a yes and a no column.
Now ask your family and friends the question and keep a tally for the answers you receive.
We have given you an example below.
(20 minutes)
Science/Inquiry
Learning Intention:
We are learning to make our own toys so we can test how they move
Webex Thursday: Science - Designing a toy (Introducing)
Tasks:
Log into ClickView and watch Moving Around.
Over the next few weeks we will be designing and making our own moving toys.
This week it is time to design!
Draw and label a picture of the moving toy you would like to design.
Look at the images below for some inspiration.

Think about if you want your toy to roll, spin, bounce or slide.
List the materials you will need to make your toy.
