Personal Strengths
Learning Intention:
We are identifying times when we have demonstrated personal strengths as a learner
Task:
Look at the list of personal strengths below.

Choose one strength that you demonstrate as a learner at school or at home.
In your scrapbook, write the strength at the top of a page.
Draw and write about a time you demonstrated this strength in your learning.
You may also wish to draw or write about a time when you have shown this strength as a friend.
(20 minutes)
Reading
Each day read a book to someone from Bug Club, Epic! or a take home book.
Choose both fiction and non-fiction books to read.
When you finish the book, spend five minutes discussing the book with the person you read to using your retell prompts.
(15–20 minutes each day)
Learning Intention:
We are investigating the features of a fiction text so that we can explain why a text is fiction
Tasks:
Webex Monday: Reading - features of fiction text
Please complete the following task after the Webex session on Monday.
You will be investigating the features of a fiction text. Look at the picture below.

Here is an example of the features of the fiction text Little Red Riding Hood.
| Title | Little Red Riding Hood |
| Characters | Little Red Riding Hood, Grandma, the wolf and the woodcutter |
| Setting | Forest, Grandma's house |
| Problem | The wolf wanted to eat Little Red Riding Hood |
| Solution | The woodcutter rescues them |
Choose a fiction text of your choice.
In your lined book, copy the table above and record the fiction features that you find in your text.
(30 minutes)
Learning Intention:
We are learning to read independently so that we can build our reading stamina
Task:
Find a ‘just right’ book to read and practise your reading stamina (how long you can read for without getting distracted).
Look at the picture below for a reminder of what independent reading should:

In your lined book, write the title ‘Independent Reading’.
Write the title and author of the book (or books) you read.
Record the amount of time you read independently.
(20-30 minutes)
Writing
Learning Intention:
We are learning about poetry so that we can create an acrostic poem
Task:
The purpose of an acrostic poem is to show what you know about a topic.
An acrostic poem uses the letters in a topic word to begin each line. Look at the examples below.

Create an acrostic poem for your name.
Write your name vertically down the left side of your lined book. What words describe you?
Optional: Create an acrostic poem about your favourite animal.
(30 minutes)
Learning Intention:
We are learning about poetry so that we can write a three line poem
Tasks:
Webex Tuesday: Writing - three line poems
Please complete the following task after the Webex session on Tuesday.
Three line poems are short poems about one subject or noun. There is a special way to write a three line poem.
The first line names the subject in a word or two.
The second line describes its location in a sentence.
The third line explains what the subject is doing.
Read the examples of three line poems below.
The tree
In the middle of the paddock
Stands alone
Apple pie
Cooling on the table
Being eaten by our family
Brown dog
Under a tree in the backyard
Barking loudly
Mrs Morris
Sitting in front of the fire
Reading her favourite book
In your lined book, write at least four of your own three line poems. Draw a picture for each poem.
(30 minutes)
Maths
Learning Intention:
We are learning to recognise the features of an analogue clock so that we can tell the time
Fluency activity (to be completed daily).
Click here to play ‘Hickory, Dickory, Clock’. Select the level of your choice.
(10 minutes each day)
Learning Intention:
We are learning about the months and seasons of the year so that we can understand changes that occur over time
Tasks:
Log into ClickView and watch the video Weather and Seasons.
Seasons affect the way we live. For example:
In Winter you may wear warm clothes and scarves, eat soup, or travel to the snow.
In Summer, you may wear shorts and t-shirts, visit the beach and eat ice-cream.
In your scrapbook, write 'The Four Seasons'.
Divide the rest of your page into four.
Write one season in each box.
Draw what you would wear, eat or use in each season. You may need to look through your wardrobe for ideas!
(20-30 minutes)
On the next page of your scrapbook, divide your page into another four boxes.
Write one season in each box.
Draw a tree to represent each season of the year and list the months of each season below the tree. See the example below.

(20 minutes)
Webex Wednesday: Maths - seasons
Inquiry
Learning Intention:
We are learning about the similarities and differences between us and children around the world
Task:
Read the book ‘Let’s Explore China‘ on Epic!

As you are reading, think about some of the things that are the same for children living in China and you living in Australia.
Write these down in a table like the one below.
| Things that are the same |
| There are cities in both countries |
