Spanish
Learning Intention:
We are learning about foods in Latin American countries
There are many foods that we eat that originated in Latin America.
Can you think of any that you already eat?
Write down the names of foods that you eat that are influenced by Latin American culture.
See if you can find them in the book below.
Activity 1:
Compare and contrast
Book: Food (Comida) Proud to be Latino! Click here
Read the book in English.
What foods do you already eat?
Are there similar foods in your culture that have a different name?
What are they called?
Write your answers in your LFH book and include some interesting facts that you have learnt from the book.
Log on to ClickView and learn how to say the words in Spanish here.
Activity 2:
Find the near-cognates and cognates in the Spanish version of the text.
Remember that cognates are words that are similar in Spanish and English.
For example, on the first (Spanish) page of “Comida-Proud to be Latino!” here are some words that you might already know: vitaminas, nutrients and deliciosos.
Write down the meanings of each of these words if you know the answers!
Continue this with the remaining pages of the book.
How many cognates can you identify?
Activity 3:
Practise reading in Spanish.
We have spent a lot of time looking at the use of accents, how to say letters within each word and how to use intonation to say different words in Spanish.
Listen to how I read the information about chocolate and try to read the words in the same way.
I will say the words individually and read more slowly than usual when reading the text!

Music
Learning Intention:
We are performing and recording our parts in a song with accurate tempo (speed) and pitch (high and low sounds)
Perform your sections of the song ‘We Go Together’.
You can choose to sing just your verse, or all 3 sections of the song.
You will need to use the previous videos, or the videos below, to sing with as I need you to be in time with the backing track.
It is very important that when you record your singing, that you have headphones on so I can hear just your voice and not the backing track.
Record your singing on a device and send the video or audio to me through the Sentral Parent Portal by Friday 11 September.
You may need to compress the video so it is a small enough size to send. You can do this through using software like QuickTime (Mac) or VLC (Windows). There are also websites that can do this for you.

Art
Learning Intention:
Explore visual conventions and use materials, techniques, technologies and processes specific to particular art forms, to make artworks
Set up to do some painting at home or use blending pastels, to mix a variety of warm and cool colours from the
primary colours red, yellow and blue.

When mixing warm colours the predominant colours will be red or yellow.
When mixing cool colours the predominant colour will be blue.
Create and use a variety of cool colours to fill an A3 page (of good quality paper or card) with wave like lines to depict the ocean.
When this is dry, find a photo of yourself and paste onto this background.
The photos above have been printed large in black and white for extra contrast, but you can add any photo you like.
You might even like to paste in a photo of someone else.
Now paint your sea life and snorkelling gear in warm colours.
In a painted composition, our eye naturally brings warm colours forward into the foreground.
Cool colours tend to recede into the background.
Library
Learning Intentions:
We are learning about the criteria the CBCA uses to shortlist books
We are learning about the importance of illustration to tell a story
Book Week this year will be celebrated in term 4.
This Children’s Book Council of Australia event highlights the importance of reading, and draws on the joy of stories and the creativity of Australian books.
The CBCA judges have shortlisted six books in different categories.
The categories we focus on are Early Childhood, Picture Book, Younger Readers and The Eve Pownall award.
All students will get to vote on their favourite book in term 4 and we will compare our choices to those of the judges.
The CBCA will officially announce the winners on Friday 23 October.
The CBCA theme this year is ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’

One of the categories Year 3 and 4 will be focusing on leading up to Book Week is Picture Book of the Year.
Six books have been shortlisted by the CBCA judges as the best picture books based on the following criteria.
One of the shortlisted books in this category is ‘Nop'. To read this picture story book on Story Box library click here
Just like the shortlisted books in the Picture Book of the Year category many books rely on illustrations to tell the story.
Maurice Sendak’s book ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ was published over 60 years ago and is still very popular today because of the vivid and descriptive illustrations. It is a powerful example of how illustrations are used to enhance and tell a story.
It fits in perfectly with the CBCA theme ’Curious Creatures, Wild Minds.’
To listen to this story log in to ClickView and watch Where the Wild Things Are
Create a short story where the illustrations tell a story. You can include a few words if you wish.
It could be a story that you already know or it could be your own story.
Optional:
Click here and research these statements to determine whether they are curious facts or wild fiction.
