Spanish
30 minutes
Learning Intention:
Compare and contrast a Spanish and English text
Activity 1:
Word Match
“Señor Pancho had a Rancho” is a bilingual book.
The word bilingual means that it is written in both English and Spanish.
Many of you will be familiar with the English version of the song in the book ‘Old MacDonald Had A Farm’!
Can you find the English words in the text that match with these Spanish ones?
Book: Señor Pancho Had A Rancho Click here.
Activity 2:

Art
Learning Intention:
We are learning to respond to visual artworks, including artworks by local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and experiment with different materials, techniques and processes to make artworks in a range of art forms.
Read about Aboriginal Shields here and explore the variety of traditional shapes and decorative patterns here.

Design your own Aboriginal shield of power.
You will need an old cardboard box, some string, tape and paint or textas.
Draw the outline of your shield onto the cardboard and cut the shape out.
Take your time to draw some lines, dividing the shield into large shapes.
Decorate the inside of each shape with more shapes and lines.
Colour in all the shapes and between the lines.
When your shield of power is decorated, attach some string at the back so you can hold it up for protection, or hang it up for display.
Library
Learning Intention:
We are learning to make choices about books that we read
Book Week this year is October 17-23 (Term 4)
Every year there is a theme for Book Week and this year it is ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’

Each year across Australia the Children’s Book Council of Australia read lots of books and decide which 6 are the best.
They put these books on a special list called a ‘shortlist’. The judges read these books and then decide which book they think is the best.
During our last library focus you were able to read 5 of the 6 2020 Early Childhood CBCA shortlisted books on Story Box Library. I am excited to announce that the 6th shortlisted book has now been added to Story Box Library.
To read ‘When Billy Was A Dog’ click here.
The theme ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’ is a very exciting theme to celebrate Book Week.
To hear Mrs Keogh read a story about a curious creature with a wild mind, log in to ClickView and watch Thelma the Unicorn.
Imagine you are a curious creature with a wild mind.
Design and create a curious creature that you would like to be.
You may base it on a creature from one of your favourite books or you could create it from your imagination.
You can construct it,
paint it,
draw it,
make it out of playdough or any other way you can think of.
Please give your curious creature a name and write about it.
What does it like?
Where does it live?
What does it do that makes it wild?
How is it curious?
Your creature may be a combination of lots of different animals. For example, your curious creature could be part chicken, tiger and snake – ‘Tigsnaken.’

We would love for your curious creature to be displayed in the library during Book Week.
