Week beginning - 20 April 2020
Parents: the dot points under Tasks can help you to arrange days and tasks. Feel free to suit your family's schedule - we know they are all different.
We recommend spreading tasks throughout the week.
As well as Reading every day, try to do one Task (or part of a task) from these sections on any day - Writing, Maths, Inquiry and Wellbeing.
Try to complete all tasks by the end of the week.
You will need your Epic class code and Sunshine Online login details this week. These were sent in an email letter to your parents.
Reading
Learning Intentions:
We are increasing our reading stamina (the amount of time we can read without stopping).
We are retelling a story using pictures or words.
We are listening and responding to a text.
We are reading to someone and reflecting on what we did well.
Tasks:
20-30 minutes Read your Just Right Book (JRB) independently every day. Try to increase the amount of time you read each day. A JRB can be your take home book or a book of your choice. Remember to record the book in your reading log (lined books).
20-30 minutes Click here to access the story Clever Crow on Story Box Library. Username and password are below.
Username: lpsstories
Password: LPS1
When you log onto Epic! any new book assigned to everyone in the class will appear as a pop up, letting you know your teacher has chosen a book for you all and it will be the first book in your list.
Click on the blue mailbox at the top right hand side of the page and this takes you to the list of all your individual books.
You can listen to a book being read to you, as well as practising reading this aloud for fluency.
Writing
Learning Intentions:
We are describing a picture.
We are writing sentences with interesting adjectives.
We are following a procedure and writing a reflection.
We are forming anticlockwise letters.
Tasks:
‘Anzac biscuits have long been associated with the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) established in World War I. The biscuits were sent by wives and women's groups to soldiers abroad because the ingredients do not spoil easily and the biscuits kept well during naval transportation.’
Remember a recipe is a type of procedure. Read the ANZAC Biscuits recipe. If you have the ingredients, follow the recipe to make the biscuits, or use another biscuit recipe. Once you have finished, write about what you did and how the biscuits turned out in your writing book.
If you are unable to make biscuits, choose something else you have made at home and write about this instead.
20 minutes Look at the handwriting example below. Copy and continue the handwriting into your lined book. Remember to use correct posture and pencil grip.

You could create your own sentences using words starting with a or c.
Maths
Learning Intentions:
We are practising adding numbers to make 10 (number bonds).
We are making a schedule about the things we do in a day.
We are asking questions to collect data.
We are using data to make a picture graph.
Tasks:
Explore the Number Bonds section of Hit the Button and have a go at number bonds to 20 or 100. You could play Hit the Button for 10 minutes each day as a fluency activity.
30-40 minutes You will be recording the time you do different activities in one day. In your scrapbook, write the date at the top of a page. For every activity you do today, record the time you started it and what the activity was. Activities could include the time you woke up, had breakfast, brushed your teeth, read a book, played a game and so on. You may write the digital or analogue time, or both.
Ask everyone in your home what their favourite ice-cream flavour is. Do not forget to include your favourite flavour too! Record each answer using tally marks and write the total number of people at the end.
You may wish to contact other family members or friends by phone, text or email and ask them what is their favourite ice-cream flavour? You will need to ask an adult at home to help you with this.
For more information about tally marks, click here to log into Epic. Choose the book Tally Charts from your mailbox.
Once you have read the book, follow the instructions below.
For example, ‘I noticed more people liked chocolate ice-cream.’
