After another fantastic year, this is our final eNews for 2025. This edition showcases some photos of the recent Year 4 Adventure Day.
Years 1-6 students met their 2026 teachers on Tuesday. Many parents took the opportunity to also introduce themselves to teachers after school.
Following another year of staffing challenges for schools we have almost a full staff for 2026. Although class teachers are in place, we are currently recruiting for a Languages - Spanish teacher from Term 1 to complete our requirements. Nevertheless, as teaching positions are continuously advertised throughout the holidays, we almost expect further changes. In this climate, staffing is not finalised until school resumes.
For our current 2026 staff list - please click here. A 2026 school map will be uploaded to Sentral soon.
In 2026, we welcome some new teachers to LPS who are currently working in other Victorian schools: Michelle Hulse, Claire Kielty and Anna Cochrane. Bringing her international teaching experience, as well as her CRT time at LPS this year, Elin Roberts also joins our staff. Additionally, Natalie Kiriati returns from parental leave to resume her Assistant Principal role.
We offer a sincere thank you to all those staff who are leaving, for your many contributions to LPS and our profession:
The Smile Squad free school dental program is coming to our school.
The Smile Squad team from healthAbility are coming to our school in February of 2026. All students from Prep to Year 6 will have access to the Victorian Government free school dental program.
This means ALL students can get a free dental check-up, preventive services, and treatment at school. Smile Squad needs your consent before they can provide services. Consent is usually provided by a parent or guardian.

We have had a very successful semester with Snack Club, and look forward to continuing with the program in 2026. Thanks to our fantastic Year 4 student leaders for doing an amazing job!
Release your creative side with some 'Pizza of the Imagination' over the holiday break!

We farewell our Year 6 students at our final assembly for 2025 this Friday at 9.15am in the hall. A reminder to our Year 6 parents to please join us afterwards for morning tea in the Staff Community Centre. Our Year 6 staff will be in attendance.
What a great year it has been in Year 1! We have ended on a high with our Science Expo showcasing the various push/pull toys we made from recycled materials. Our earlier Science excursion was the perfect inspiration to get our creativity flowing. After a fair bit of trial and error, we were ready to show our parents and caregivers. Thank you to all who were able to make it!

Our Year 1 students, along with the Year 5s, were the luckiest (or unluckiest) group during our Colour Fun Run event. The not-so lucky part was that we ran during heavy rain and even a little bit of hail. Absolutely soaked! The silver lining was that being wet made us the most COLOURFUL group of the day!
Check us out!

To finish our Light and Sound unit, the Year 2 classrooms held an Expo to share their learning. We displayed our instruments that we made from recyclable materials, our writing, both a procedure of how we made our instruments and a recount of the day we made them and a shadow puppet.
It was exciting having family and friends from other classes come share in our learning and celebrate our success. We had lots of parents commenting on our ‘beautiful writing’ and it was fun explaining how our instruments and shadow puppets worked.

During inquiry, Year 3 students spent the term investigating thermal conductivity, states of matter, and forces. A highlight of the learning journey was the collaborative design of a Science Challenge. Working in small groups, students created engaging slide shows and experiments for their families to try at our Expo. The event was a wonderful celebration of curiosity, teamwork, and scientific thinking.

In Maths, students have enjoyed creating their own theme parks, applying a range of mathematical concepts learnt throughout the year. This included using mapping skills, planning timetables, creating games of chance and developing menus with realistic pricing. What a fun way for students to apply Maths in real life!

On Wednesday 26 November, the Year 4 students went on an excursion to the Enchanted Adventure Gardens at Arthur’s Seat. The students got to test their nerves on the tree top challenge course, and develop their problem-solving skills by completing mazes and puzzles.
Other highlights included the very popular tube slide and sky scrambler (a playground in the trees). The students laughed and smiled all day, no matter how tiring they found the tree top or the tube slide hill. They loved every moment, even the bus ride with a driver who thought he was a DJ.

Last Friday, the students had their last buddy session for the year. They had a blast building and creating paper planes and making modifications to see who could get theirs to fly the furthest. Some of the Preps even had to teach the Year 4s how to make a plane. These buddy sessions have been a joy this year and have created many unforgettable memories!

Last Thursday, Year 4s had their “Science Show Challenge” Expo, inviting all parents and guardians. It was great to see many families come out to support their child’s Science challenge and see all the work they have completed this term. We saw challenges related to coordination, buoyancy and of course the forces of push and pull.
Thank you for reading the Year 4 eNews all year and keeping up to date with what’s been going on in 2025!

That’s a Wrap from Parents Group!
As President of the Laburnum Primary School Parents Group, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents and their family members who volunteered their time, energy and support throughout the year.
Our events and fundraising activities simply would not be possible without the many volunteers who stepped forward to help, whether it was baking, packing orders, serving food, setting up, packing down, coordinating logistics or lending a hand wherever needed. From major events such as Trivia Night, the Election Day Cake Stall and the Colour Fun Run, to fundraisers like the Mango Drive, Mooncake, Footy Pie Day and every mum’s favourites - the Mother’s Day Stall, Father’s Day Breakfast and Footy Pie Day, every contribution made a real difference in 2025.
I would also like to sincerely thank the weekly lunch order helpers whose consistent, behind the scenes efforts, ensured lunches ran smoothly week after week. Your reliability and commitment throughout the year have been invaluable to both students and families.
A special thank you as well to all parents who attended Parents Group meetings, shared ideas, provided feedback and supported decision making. Your engagement and willingness to be involved help strengthen our school community and ensure the Parents Group reflects the needs and voices of our families.
Together, the time you have given and the spirit you have shown have helped create memorable experiences for our children and raised vital funds to support the school. We are incredibly grateful for the strong sense of community that you continue to build at Laburnum Primary School.
As I look ahead, I do so with optimism and excitement. With the continued support, kindness and involvement of our school community, I look forward to building on this year’s achievements and creating even more meaningful experiences for our children together in 2026.
Thank you for making this year such a success. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
