Welcome To Preps
In 2009 we have 6 small classes. Across the year students in the Prep classes
investigate several Units of Study which include rich classroom experiences as
well as incursions and excursions and special activities to support the
children's learning.
Starting School
Building on the exciting experience of starting school this unit helps children see themselves as part of the Laburnum school community. As well as helping children feel happy and settled in their new environment this unit aims at giving children an understanding of school expectations as well as investigating the physical aspects of the classroom and the schoolgrounds.

All About Me
This unit is an investigation of how each person and family is unique. The children explore the different events and stages in people's lives. A highlight is when the children invite their Grandparents to visit them at school. Another focus is to see how our lifestyles affect our health. During this unit the children have the opportunity to participate in the Kidz Bodz
My Local Neighbourhood
In this unit the children investigate the natural and man made aspects of the school and immediate local neighbourhood. The children explore ways we use and care for our school and local environment. During this unit the role of Safety Houses in our local area is emphasised.
Living Things
This unit investigates the characteristics of animals. With a focus on wild animals the children identify the needs of these animals comparing them to domestic and farm animals. An excursion to the Zoo assists children in identifying how natural habitats provide these needs and how zoos can meet these needs in captivity.
