Welcome to Physical Education at Laburnum

The children at Laburnum Primary School participate enthusiastically in our Physical Education program. Fundamental motor skills and Fitness Education are taught within each component of the Physical Education and Sport program.




The components of the program are:

Children at Laburnum are encouraged to participate in a wide range of physical activities outside the Physical Education program.

Each morning before school an enthusiastic group of children from all levels of the school join in the fun of Joggers Club around the track in the adjacent Black's Walk parkland.

All year 3-6 students participate in a House Athletics program. Selected students participate in the Blackburn District Athletic Carnival and a number of pupils move on to Zone, State or Inter State level.

A team is selected for year 3-6 students each year to participate in the Blackburn District Cross Country Events. A number of students move on to Zone, State or Inter State level.

Year 5 and 6 students participate in the McDonalds Round Robin basketball tournament each year.

Year 6 students enjoy taking part in the Kanga 8's Cricket Round Robin.

Year 3-5 students receive 1 hour of sporting activity each week participating in activities to develop skills for the year 6 Inter-school Sport program. Children in year 6 are able to select from the following Summer and Winter Sport options for our Inter-school Sport program. They include: Cricket, Rounders, Bat-tennis, Softball, Sofcrosse, Australian Rules Football, Basketball, Netball and T-ball.

Children are encouraged to participate in sporting activities outside of school hours through Netball and Basketball teams and a growing number of children in the State Schools Skiing program at Mount Buller.

Sporting Honours
Laburnum boasts a rich history of fine sporting achievers including a State Primary Schools Triple Jump Record, State Primary Schools Individual Sporting Blue for Basketball, State Softball team member, National Australian School's Gold Medal for diving and two State Cross Country members.
