At Laburnum we are fortunate to have a well-resourced and attractive library. The children have a lot of fun exploring a wide range of literature in a variety of forms. Children are strongly encouraged to develop consistent borrowing habits and to share their favourite stories with their classmates during library sessions.

Doorways to Laburnum
As part of our kindergarten to school transition program local preschoolers are invited to 'Doorways to Laburnum' during Term 3. The children have a great time singing songs, reading stories, playing games and making things with Mrs Pearce, Mrs Rodenberg and the other specialist teachers.

Welcome Hazel Edwards
During Term 2 Laburnum Primary School was invited to launch the long awaited new Hippo book 'Hand-Me-Down Hippo'. Our grade 1 children had a wonderful session chatting to Hazel Edwards about her new 'easy read' fictional story and were delighted to meet the author of the Hippo books they had enjoyed over the years.

Celebrating Book Week 2004
During the leadup to this year's Book Week the children had the opportunity to share all of the nominated books and vote on their choice for the Book of the Year. At Laburnum our favourite was Cat and Fish.

A highlight of Book Week was the engaging sessions with author/illustrator Terry Denton who shared his inspiration and approach to the writing and illustrating processes. This was followed up with an opportunity to have a go at 'Terry Denton' style illustrations.
