Parents' Group at Laburnum PS

Aims:

Parents’ Group is the social and fundraising group within our school.

Our aims are twofold:

1.    To foster a sense of community amongst school parents, through social events and other activities.

2.    Raise funds to be used to improve our children’s Primary School experience.

We aim to do this through organising numerous events and drives throughout the year. For more information about past and upcoming events please see our Events pages.

Structure:
The Parents’ Group is made up of volunteers from the Parent Community. We operate under our own constitution (provide link), but function as a sub committee of the School Council.

Ideally our committee will consist of:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Social Representative
  • Fundraising Representative
  • Community Representative

Description of roles:

President:
The President chairs monthly meetings, develops the monthly agenda in conjunction with the secretary & fields all enquiries which come through the office. The President ensures all events have co-ordinators and provides assistance as required.

Vice President:
Provides support to the President and chairs meetings in the President’s absence.
The Vice President position is currently vacant.

Secretary:
The Secretary take minutes at the monthly meetings and sets the agenda in conjunction with the President each month. The Secretary may also be called on to write letters and monitor correspondence as it arises.
Kerry Short is the current Secretary

Treasurer:
The Treasurer works closely with the school office to monitor the funds raised and spent.
Ruth Weir is the current Treasurer

Social Representative:
The Social Representative has the job of overseeing the social efforts of the Parents’ Group. Events the Social Rep would be involved in are the Trivia Night, the School Ball or other social functions
Kelley Dixon is the current Social Rep.

Fundraising Representative
The Fundraising Rep looks after fundraising events and investigates new opportunities to raise funds. This may include the selling of Entertainment Books, Pie drives, raffles etc. They work closely with the other reps at functions like the Ball or the Trivia Night to help generate funds.
Sarah-Jane Mead is the Fundraising Rep.

Community Representative
The Community Rep. looks for opportunities to foster a sense of community amongst our school families, as well as events, which provide assistance to other members of the wider community. Community events include the Fathers’ Day breakfast, the Mothers’ Day stall, Lunch orders for Haiti and the Biggest Morning Tea.
Melissa Malone is the current Community Rep.

If you would like to become a member of Parents’ Group it is really easy! Please come along to one of our monthly meetings and see what goes on.

We meet every 2nd Tuesday of each month (except in School Holidays) In the school Staffroom at 7.30pm.
